NABI & CIAB celebrated Open day

An open day has been organized by National Agri-Food Biotechnology Institute (NABI) on the theme ‘Biotechnology for Agriculture’ and Center of Innovative and Applied Bioprocessing (CIAB) on the theme ‘Innovate for entrepreneurs’, two autonomous institutes of Department of Biotechnology, Government of India at Mohali on September 17, 2018 under the outreach programme of Indian International Science festival (IISF) and VIBHA-2018.

Prof. Vijay Paul Sharma, Chairman, Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices (CACP), Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Govt. of India and Professor, IIM, Ahmedabad delivered the presidential address. Prof. Sharma congratulated the NABI and CIAB for their achievements and progress in the areas of agricultural biotechnology and bioprocessing for the society, respectively. Technologies are the major drivers to build the quality institutions and hence the strong nation, he said. He has strongly highlighted the need of four vertical pillars such as technological intervention, building institutions of international competitiveness, providing world class R&D infrastructure and transportation facility reaching to the deep of rural Indian community and last is to provide right incentives to farmers and larger society.

In total more than 300 participants attended the open day event. In model making competition more than 50 students from more than 20 schools have participated. Similarly, in debate competition more than 70 students from more than 20 colleges from the tri-city and from neighboring states have participated. In each category of competitions, more than five attractive prizes were given. A large number of teachers from school and colleges have also participated in the programme. Also, professors and eminent scientists from institutions like Panjab University, IISER, NIPER, INST, CSIR-IMTech, CSIR-CSIO etc also graced the occasion.
